Disclaimer: I don’t have a recipe for you this post. I’m sure your 2013 resolutions are secretly happy with you. Unless you are one of my coworkers who ate 2-3 huge Oreo stuffed chocolate chip cookies and are angry but secretly happy with me. Just saying.
In less than 2 weeks I am moving to California. I’ve thought about this for a long time, albeit not as seriously and intensely as I have for the past 2-3 weeks. But on February 10, I am packing my bags and heading out to LA to pursue my acting career, while still working on the side and (hopefully) baking up a storm. I don’t have a car yet, I don’t have an apartment yet (but I have figured out a roommate!), I don’t have a job. There’s a lot of things I don’t have yet, and it’s terrifying but also exciting. The details are slowly coming together and I’m very excited.
The only downside is that I won’t have an apartment for at least a month until my roommate moves out to LA, so I’m worried I’ll go a month without baking. Unless my friends lovingly offer up the use of their kitchen in exchange for free baked goods. I have a couple of recipes (butterfinger cookies and marshmallows and I’ve been wanting to bake some beer bread..) as drafts, so hopefully I won’t just disappear as I have been lately, posting maybe once a month with sporadic periods of a lot of posting.
January of 2013 is almost over and I have no idea where this month has gone. I’ve been overwhelmed, working a lot, and just overall, I’ve been busy. I had today off and I spent the majority of the afternoon/evening watching Say Yes to the Dress, and Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. Seriously. I have no recollection of 2:30-6:00 today. It was all a blur of dresses and damn-good looking food. I know my brain needed time to zone out and relax after working about 50 hours last week, but still. A tad excessive.
I had meant to post a list of resolutions at the start of 2013 of things I would like to do this year – personally and for this blog. But I already failed at that. Well.. can you fail a resolution when you haven’t even made them? I don’t know. But while reading my daily list of other food blogs, I realized that not all posts have to be about food. Or baking. I would love to be able to share with you (and by you, probably just my mom and my friends who I send my blog link to anytime I post something with the hope they’ll actually read it) food or dinner ideas that I’ve come up with. Sometimes you need some real food to cut through all the baking. Especially after eating cookies for every meal for a few days. After that, all I want is salad and roasted brussel sprouts and granola and real hearty food. Sometimes I make something really good (like crispy warm melty pan-fried goat cheese to put on top a salad) and then I don’t share it because it doesn’t involve sugar (though there is some flour there..). So, I will stop that. Obviously, I will focus more on baking since that is my passion in the kitchen, but be on the lookout for some fun real food ideas too.
I would also love to share a little bit more about what’s going on in my life, especially as I’m about to move to a city where I don’t have a lot of friends, really no family, and will be 3000 miles away from the coast that has been my home for my entire life.
Anyway. Now that I’ve rambled and will not be editing this post, because, to be honest, my eyes are droopy and I’m exhausted. 9pm isn’t too early of a bedtime, is it? Didn’t think so.
Happy 2013.
